Solubility: easily soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, esters, alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons, such as ethanol, acetone, butyl acetate, gasoline, toluene, etc. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in strong alkali solution.

Stability: This product has the common characteristics of phenolic substances. When exposed to light, heat, or air, the color will gradually deepen.

Main Application

P-tert-butylphenol has antioxidant properties and can be used as a stabilizer for rubber, soap, chlorinated hydrocarbons and digested fibers. UV absorbers, anti-cracking agents such as pesticides, rubber, paints, etc. For example, it is used as a stabilizer for polycarbon resin, tert-butyl phenolic resin, epoxy resin, polyvinyl chloride, and styrene. In addition, it is also the raw material for the manufacture of medical insect repellents, pesticide acaricide Kmitt, spices and plant protection agents. It can also be used as softeners, solvents, additives for dyes and paints, antioxidants for lubricating oils, demulsifiers for oil fields and additives for vehicle fuels.

Production Method

There are four methods of making tert-butyl phenol:

(1) Phenol isobutylene method: use phenol and isobutylene as raw materials, cation exchange resin as catalyst, and carry out alkylation reaction at 110°C under normal pressure, and the product can be obtained by distillation under reduced pressure;

(2) Phenol diisobutylene method; using a silicon-aluminum catalyst, at a reaction pressure of 2.0MPa, a temperature of 200°C, and a liquid phase reaction, p-tert-butylphenol is obtained, as well as p-octylphenol and o-tert-butylphenol. The reaction product is separated to obtain p-tert-butylphenol;

(3) C4 fraction method: using cracked C4 fraction and phenol as raw materials, using titanium-molybdenum oxide as a catalyst, the reaction obtains a mixture of phenol alkylation reaction with p-tert-butylphenol as the main component, and the product is obtained after separation ;

(4) Phosphoric acid catalyst method: phenol and tert-butanol are used as raw materials, and the product can be obtained by washing and crystallization separation.

[Industrial chain] Isobutylene, tert-butanol, phenol, p-tert-butylphenol, antioxidants, stabilizers, medicines, pesticides and other organic synthetic materials.

Packaging, Storage and Transportation

It is packed with a polypropylene film lined with a light-proof paper bag as the outer layer, and a rigid cardboard drum.25kg/drum. Store in a cool, ventilated, dry, and dark warehouse. Do not place it near water pipes and heating equipment to prevent dampness and heat deterioration. Keep away from fire, heat, oxidants, and food. Transportation tools should be clean, dry, and avoid sunlight and rain during transportation.
